Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.9b6, 09.9b7 0.9.9b8 for Windows and Mac to jailbreak iOS 5 firmware. Previous RedSn0w release was Mac only. You can download RedSnow 0.9.9b8 to jailbreak iOS 5, 5.0.1 from the links below…
RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 not only jailbreaks iOS 5, it also lets you preserve iPhone4/3GS baseband for UltraSn0w or Gevey SIM unlocking. You can also flash iPhone 3GS with Baseband 06.15.00, the iPad baseband.
Here’s what’s new in this RedSn0w release:
Nov 23, 2010 You don’t need to disappoint If you are the owner of recently launched idevices like iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G etc. As redsn0w 0.9.6B4 is based on limera1n exploit from Geohot which will continue to work except that it will be tethered jailbreak meaning you have to connect to PC/MAC & re-jailbreak or boot in pwned state every time you reboot your iPhone 4 or iPod Touch 4G. Jul 14, 2014 And thus Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 is now available for Mac and Windows. As stated in the iPhone Dev-Team blog, the new Redsn0w version will now cover three different types of NOR chips in the iPhone 3G and 3GS. As opposed to the earlier version which only covered 'the most prevalent NOR chip'. Redsn0w 0.9.14b2 has also simplified the process of. Originally called QuickPwn, but due to exploitation of the name by www.quickpwn.com, version 0.7 was renamed to redsn0w and added unlocking of supported devices. Version 0.8 added support for jailbreaking the iPhone 3GS. Version 0.9b3 was released for Windows and Mac OS X, and it allows iOS 3.0 through 3.1.2 to be. Nov 23, 2010 Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 has been released for download by the iPhone dev team, and it allows you to jailbreak iOS 4.2.1, but there’s a catch; not all hardware get an untethered jailbreak.Redsn0w 0.9.6b4 only supports the following devices for untethered jailbreaks: iPhone 3G, older iPhone 3GS, and older iPod touch 2G models.
“We’ve released version 0.9.9b6 of redsn0w, with both a functional fix and cosmetic fix for iOS5 jailbreakers. For iPhone3GS owners with the 06.15 baseband, this redsn0w eliminates the network crash you saw when using Location Services in iOS5 (in fact, you don’t even need to disable Location Services anymore during the initial setup). The cosmetic fix is to the visual countdown you see when going into DFU mode. It’s okay to re-run this redsn0w over an existing device jailbroken at iOS5. Just choose “Jailbreak” again and de-select Cydia (in other words, all the checkboxes will be unchecked). If you are lucky enough to have an old-bootrom iPhone3GS, please pre-select the IPSW first (redsn0w can’t yet auto-detect the FW version of your old-bootrom 3GS if it’s already been jailbroken).”
Update 2 (RedSn0w 0.9.9b8): redsn0w version 0.9.9b8 will natively recognize the 5.0.1 beta that Apple let developers start testing this week (so you don’t have to play the “point at 5.0 IPSW” trick). Because the IPSW isn’t public, you’ll still need to provide it once to redsn0w (at which point it will cache all the important pieces so you don’t need to select it again). For those 3GS and i4 users who preserve their baseband, the Mac version can also produce the NO_BB_* custom IPSWs for 5.0.1. (But please note that ultrasn0w doesn’t get updated for betas like this.)
Redsn0w 0.9.4 For Mac
Update 1 (RedSn0w 0.9.9b7): After some feedback on reddit, we’ve decided to make the initial jailbreak as quick as possible by no longer “stashing” the applications by default during the redsn0w run. This reduces the time to actually perform the jailbreak from 210 seconds to 80 seconds (60 percent!). However, you make up for much of that the first time you launch Cydia, which will then want to stash the applications. You can choose whether you want redsn0w or Cydia to stash in the Preferences pane.

iPhone Dev Team has finally released Redsnow 0.9.6b2 with many new features for both Windows and Mac users. The new version of Redsnow uses the Geohots’s limera1n exploit to jailbreak all idevices (iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 3G, iPod Touch 4G/3G/2G Non MC models only and iPad) on latest public iOS version.
The new features in Redsn0w 0.9.6 B2 are pwned DFU mode that allows users to restore the iPhone to custom cooked firmware on Windows, custom bootlogos for iPhone 3GS owners with old bootrom and tethered boot.
The last feature, teathered boot, is for future use only and currently it has no use in this version. The instructions to jailbreak iOS 4.1 with Redsnow 0.9.6B2 are same as mentioned in these posts (1) and (2).
If you rely on unlock and don’t have access to Mac, it is highly recommended that never use this jailbreak because it won’t preserve the baseband and there is no unlock available for iOS 4.1. In case you want to enjoy the new features of iOS 4.1 version, get a custom cooked firmware with PwnageTool to update your iPhone while selecting the Pwned DFU mode in Redsn0w 0.9.6B2.
